Frequently asked questions

Where is my data stored?

Everything you add to Cherish — friends, events, hangouts, reminders, photos — is stored locally on your iPhone. Cherish doesn’t have a server, doesn’t have accounts, and doesn’t send your data anywhere.

What happens if I get a new phone?

If you restore your new iPhone from an iCloud backup, your Cherish data comes with it automatically. iOS includes Cherish’s documents folder in iCloud Backup by default.

If you want extra safety, you can also export your data manually:

  1. Open Cherish
  2. Go to Settings → Your data → Export my data
  3. Save the file to iCloud Drive, email it to yourself, or AirDrop it to your new device
  4. On the new device, install Cherish, open Settings → Your data → Import data → pick the file

My notifications aren’t working

  1. Check that notifications are enabled in iOS: Settings → Cherish → Notifications
  2. Inside Cherish, go to Settings → Notifications → Check Permissions to re-prompt
  3. If you’re seeing notifications you don’t recognize (or notifications from friends you’ve deleted), tap Settings → Notifications → Reset notifications to clear everything and start fresh

How do I delete a friend / event / reminder?

When you delete anything, Cherish automatically cancels any scheduled notifications for it.

How do gift ideas work?

Gift ideas are a curated bank of 120+ suggestions across 15 categories. Each suggestion is scored based on the friend’s tags, interests, and optional gender field. To see ideas for a friend:

  1. Open their profile
  2. Tap the yellow “Gift ideas for [Name] 🎁” card
  3. Tap any suggestion to mark it as a favorite — saved gifts appear at the top
  4. Use the filter chips (Cozy, Foodie, Splurge, Practical, Experience) to narrow down

Why does Cherish ask for location access?

Cherish doesn’t track your location. It does use Google Places to autocomplete addresses when you add a location to a hangout or event. Search queries go to Google’s API — we don’t see them.

Can I edit my own name?

Yes. Go to the Me tab. Tap Edit. Change anything in your profile — name, avatar color, tags, etc.
